PONT-LA-VILLE

Canton : Fribourg

Armoiries de Pont-la-Ville (Fribourg)

Official blazon

  • (fr) De gueules à un pont à trois arches d'argent, mouvant d'une onde du dernier.

Origin/meaning

The bridge is a canting element (Pont=bridge) and already appeared on the seal of Jocelin, co-lord of the town in 1251, see below. The colours are most likely derived from the arms of the Diocese of Lausanne, as the town historically belonged to the territory of the bishops. It is not known when the arms were first actually used as town arms though.
