Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 24, 1952 and are based on the oldest seal of the town, dating from the 17^th century.

The first quarter shows the lion of the State of Bamberg, to which the town belonged until 1803.

The second quarter shows the Lady Justice, as a symbol for the local court.

The third quarter shows the arms of the Schenk von Stauffenberg family. Bishop Marquard Sebastian of Bamberg (1683-1693) belonged to this family, and it is thus likely that the seal was made during his reign.

The origin or meaning of the fourth quarter is still unknown.
