Above the Shield is placed a Burghal coronet and in an Escrol below the same this Motto "Loyalty, Vigilance, Foresight".
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on March 23, 1921 and with a motto on September 23, 1955.
Prestwick is an ancient Burgh of Barony going back at least to 983 and is the oldest recorded Baronial Burgh in Scotland.
The arms are based on the seal adopted in 1893, which was in turn adapted from an old seal of the Burgh of Barony, of which an impression dated 1464-65 is on record.
The Fitzalan family owned the Burgh in the 13th century and the red and gold colours of the Fitzalan arms are used in the arms.
St. Nicholas is the patron saint of the Burgh. The triple towered castle on the dexter may be the nearby Castle of Ayr; the meaning of the laurel branch is also obscure, but a somewhat similar branch appears with the figure of the Saint on the medieval seal of St. Nicholas' Hospital, Glasgow.
The motto was a local suggestion-Loyalty (to the past), Vigilance (for the present), Foresight (for the future) .

Above the Shield is placed a Coronet appropriate to a statutory Community Council, videlicet:- a circlet richly chased from which are issuant four thistle leaves (one and two halves visible) and four pine cones (two visible) Or, and in an Escrol below the Shield this Motto "Loyalty, Vigilance, Foresight".
