Origin/meaning

The present arms were granted in 1968.

The falcon is taken from the arms of the Counts of Falkenberg, who founded the town in the 12^th century. The broken wheel in the base is the symbol of St. Catherine. The two staffs are a symbol for the abbey in Herrenchiemsee, to which the parish belonged.

The first arms of the town were granted in 1903 by Prince-Regent Luitpold of Bayern. These arms showed the image of St. Catherine, with the broken wheel, holding in het hand a small shield with a falcon, see below.
