QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY AIR SQUADRON, ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE

History: Formed at Belfast in 1941.

In front of a pair of wings conjoined in base a hand couped at the wrist gules holding a torch.
Motto: To seek new knowledge and new horizons.

Origin/meaning

The Torch and Wings symbolises Learning and Aviation. The Red Hand alludes to the Badge of Ulster and the location of the Unit. The badge was granted in March 1949.
