REDCLIFFE

State : Queensland

Redcliffe.jpg

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 1959.

The shield features a horizontal arch of golden bricks - representing the Hornibrook Highway; a golden swimming fish - indicating the abundance of fish in the surrounding waters; and a reproduction of Captain Cook's ship 'Endeavour' in full sail - with long steamer pennants in silver at the mastheads.

The crest depicts the head of an aboriginal elder of the tribal council. It represents the aboriginal law-givers of earlier times and relates to the role of today's Council in the community.

The motto (A Colondia Condita) means the founding of the very first settlement and celebrates Redcliffe's place as the site of the first European settlement in Queensland.
