Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on December 4, 1937.

The arms show in the upper part the two rivers Rhine and Wupper, from which the name of the district is derived. The lion is the lion of the Counts (later) Dukes of Berg, who ruled most of the area. The lion also appears in many arms in the district.
