Rhoden developed around a castle of the Counts of Waldeck in the middle of the 13<sup>th</sup> century. In 1294 the village received city rights and was fortified. The oldest seal dates from the same time and shows already the same composition as the arms. The seal showed a city wall with a church and the star of the Counts of Waldeck. In the 19<sup>th</sup> century the composition was placed in a shield.
