There is no record of the actual grant or confirmation of these arms, the sole reference recorded being in Camden's grants, volume III, folio 27r. No motto is included.

The arms are probably derived from the arms of his wife, as there are no arms known for his own family. His wife was Margaret Davenant used the Davenant arms, as did her brother and successor of Robert Tounson, John Davenant.
