Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted on November 6, 2015.
The blue oint is a canting element, the name means Deep Valley (Diependaal is Dutch for deep valley). The crosier stands for the local patron saint, St. Vaast. The crown for the Frankish King Clovis, who was baptised by St. Vaast.
The chief shows a locomotive as the railway line has played a major role in the local development.
The letters are the initials of the municipality.
