SALTASH

Incorporated into : 1974 Caradon

Saltash.jpg

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

Saltash does not have an official coat of arms, but has used a heraldic seal for many centuries.

The seal shows the arms of the ancient Earls of Cornwall. The red crowned lion is also found in the arms of Devon county Council. The black bordure with gold bezants is a familiar symbol of Cornwall. The Earls of Cornwall were Lords of Saltash. The shield is placed between two ostrich feathers and ensigned by a crown, which are taken from the arms of the Duchy of Cornwall.

The town's coastal situation is shown by the waves at the base of the shield.
