The arms were granted on November 9, 1964.
The wheel is a canting element for the wheel of St. Catherine, the local patron saint.
The Bergwerkszeichen (miner's tools) are a symbol of mining, which was important in the past. The pine trees symbolise the importance of forestry in the municipality.
