SANT FELIU DE BUIXALLEU

Region : Catalonia
Province : Girona

Escudo de Sant Feliu de Buixalleu/Arms (crest) of Sant Feliu de Buixalleu
Official blazon
Catalan Escut caironat: de sinople, un gorg d'or carregat de 4 faixes ondades de gules, sobremuntat d'un astor d'argent. Per timbre una corona mural de poble.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 29th September 1994.

The arms show a goshawk and a "gorg" (Catalan for a river pool) charged with wavy bars; the colours are the ones of the royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon, Or and Gules. These elements allude to a legendary historical fact: in this municipality, the count-king Ramon Berenguer II was killed by one of his escorts during a journey, and later thrown to a pool called since then Gorg del Comte (Count's Pool); the count's goshawk found the corpse and guided those who were searching for him to the place of murdering.
