Portuguese Escudo de prata, faixa vermelho adamascada de ouro; em chefe, uma mó púrpura entre duas palmas de verde, postas a da dextra em barra a da sinistra em banda; em campanha, cacho de uvas púrpura folhado de verde. Coroa mural de prata de três torres e listel com branco com a legenda a negro : " COUTO - SANTA CRISTINA ".

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 16, 1999.

The two palm leaves are the symbol for St. Christina, the local patron saint. The millstone symbolises the different mills in the parish.
The bar symbolises the textile industries in the parish, which have a very long tradition and is famous for its decorations.
The base shows a bunch of grapes for the importance of viticulture in the area.
