Portuguese Escudo de ouro, Cruz da Ordem de Avis acompanhada de duas cegonhas de negro, realçadas de prata, bicadas e membradas de vermelho, vigilantes, a da dextra volvida; em chefe, ramo de palma de verde, posto em faixa; em campanha, três vieiras de azul alinhadas em roquete. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco, com a legenda a negro: “SANTO ESTÊVÃO – BENAVENTE”.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on ?.

The palm leaf is the symbol of the St. Stephen, the local patron saint. The cross is the cross of the Orer of Avis, as the parish was a possession of the order.

The black storks and the scallops are a symbol for the local fauna and the Natural Reserve of the Tagus Estuary.
