In the late 17th century the Van de Werve family acquired the Schilde estate. The local council started to use the family arms as arms of the village in the 18th century. Even though these were not granted, the village used the complete arms of the Van de Werve family, including supporters and crown (see also Lichtaart and Vorselaar)
