Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on April 15, 1935.

The first quarter shows the arms of the Counts of Hanau, the most influential rulers in the district. The second quarter shows the lion of Hessen, as the some estates became part of Hessen in 1643-1648. The third shows the cross of the State of Fulda and represents the villages that historically belonged to Fulda. The fourth quarter shows the arms of the Lords of Hütten for the area around the cities of Bad Soden and Salmünster.
