Additions : 1972 Fritzlar-Homberg (1932 Fritzlar, Homberg), Melsungen, Ziegenhain
Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on September 4, 1975.
The arms are a combination of the lion of Hessen, as the district was part of Hessen since the 13th century, and the Schwalm and Eder rivers symbolised by the bars in the lower part of the arms.
