Origin/meaning

The trefoil is a symbol of agriculture, but the symbol was also used in the arms of the medieval Lords of Siedenburg. The base shows the bear claws of the Counts of Hoya, as the area historically was part of the County Hoya. In the Kaffee Hag albums of the early 20th century the arms were shown without the claw:
