Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 31, 1938.

The arms show the lion of the Counts of Nassau, who founded the city of Siegen in 1224. The Counts ruled the area from the 12th century until the 17th century. The left half shows some mining tools, symbolising iron mining and metal industry as an important economic factor since the early Middle Ages.
