SOBOLEW

Province: Mazowsze
County: Garwolin

Coat of arms (crest) of Sobolew
Official blazon
Polish blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on January 12, 2006.

The symbolism of the coat of arms refers to historical events taking place in the area during the Kościuszko Uprising, an uprising against the Russian Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia led by Tadeusz Kościuszko in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Prussian partition in 1794. There is a mound in the municipality commemorating the capture of Tadeusz Kosciuszko by the Russian army on October 10, 1794 after the defeat of the battle at nearby Maciejowice. Before the battle Kosciuszko rested under an oak tree in the municipality from which the trunk was later made into a monument.

The oak tree has 16 leaves for the 16 villages in themunicipality.
