The ship refers to the importance of shipping on the Elbe. The fleur-de-lis refers to the Lords of Köckeritz, who ruled the city in the 15<sup>th</sup> century. Their arms showed three golden fleur-de-lis in blue.
The ship refers to the importance of shipping and fishing on the Elbe river. The fleur-de-lis refers to the Lords of Köckritz, who ruled the city in the 15<sup>th</sup> century. Their arms showed three golden fleur-de-lis in blue. During their rule Wehlen received city rights.
 
The arms are known as such from a seal from 1657, see image below.
