The oldest seal of the town dates from the 14th century and it shows two crossed crosiers, symbol for the Bishops of Würzburg, to which the town belonged. In the next seal (15th century) the arms are quartered with the banner of the State of Würzburg. In the 16th century the arms were completely changed, and showed a large bend, with on the bend the banner of Würzburg. This composition is also seen in the different rolls of arms from the 16th century. The seals and images since the 17th century, however, only show the banner.
