Wappen von Stainz/Arms (crest) of Stainz

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 5, 2016.

The arms combine elements from the previous arms (see below) with the addition of 6 water lily leaves, one for each of the former municipalities.

There is no formal grant on record for the previous arms, the arms are traditional.

The borough was under the lordship of the Canons Regular of Stainz monastery (dissolved at the end of the 18th century). The monastery was granted by members of the famous von Wildon family in the High Middle Ages; their arms were three "Seeblätter", leaves of water lily. Such a leaf can be seen on the dexter side of the arms.

The other charge in the arms is a St Catherine's wheel, as St Catherine is the patron saint of Stainz.
