STOPPENBERG

State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Essen
Incorporated into : 1929 Essen

Wappen von Stoppenberg
Official blazon
German Silber über einem grünen Dreiberg ein rotes Kreuz, darin vier goldene Kugeln.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted on ? for the borough by the city of Essen. The former municipality never had arms.

The green hill is a canting element for the -berg part of the name. The cross with the golden balls refer to the former Convent and church of St. Nicholas in the then village. Normally St. Nicholas is shown with three balls, but here the number is four, for the four former villages in the municipality before 1929 : Schonnebeck, Katernberg, Rotthausen and Stoppenberg.
