State : Bayern
Incorporated into : 1972 Amberg-Sulzbach

Wappen von Sulzbach-Rosenberg (kreis)/Arms (crest) of Sulzbach-Rosenberg (kreis)
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 9, 1965.

The arms are based on the 14th century arms of the Sulzbach court, which covered the largest part of the district. The upper part shows the arms of the Pfalz (lion) and Bayern (diamonds). The court was subject to the Dukes of Bayern from the Wittelsbach dynasty, who were also Princes of the Pfalz.

The lower part shows the arms of the Counts of Sulzbach-Kastl, who founded the court and ruled the area before the Wittelsbach family.
