Origin/meaning
The arms were granted by Letters Patent Dated 10th July, 1974.
The gold fleur de lys from the old seal and new Arms of Tamworth, England, is set against waves symbolising the Peel and Cockburn Rivers. The golden fleece from the Australian Agricultural Company seal is placed between two sheaves on a blue ground as in the State Arms.
The mural crown represents a civic community. The usual crest-wreath and mantling are added in gold and blue, the colours of Tamworth, England; the Merino Ram's Head is differenced by the addition of sprigs of wattle from the Arms of Australia. The magpies have an additional element in the shape of an heraldic Tau Cross - the greek letter T for Tamworth which, with the waves and fleur de lys, is repeated in the badge.
