TECKLENBURG (TE)

State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
Incorporated into : 1974 Steinfurt

Tecklenb.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on June 30, 1934.

The arms show in the right part the water-lily leaves of (old) arms of the Counts of Bentheim, who in 1262 inherited the County Tecklenburg. The leaves always remained the symbol of the County and can also be seen in the arms of the city Tecklenburg. The area was later divided and large parts became part of the County of Lingen, the anchor in the upper left part shows the anchor of Lingen. The lower left part shows the arms of the diocese and State of Münster, to which another part of the district belonged.
