Origin/meaning

The arms were not officially granted.

The arms show an eagle with a sheet. This is based on a legend on the foundation of the city, a few centuries BC. The local Umbrians started to built their city, when an eagle holding a sheet appeared in the sky. The eagle placed the sheet on a much better position for the city, and the Umbrians decided to move their city to the placed it still is.
