TRIPOLI (‏طرابلس‎)

Arms of Tripoli

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms show in the upper left side the name of the city in Arabic and a book for the representation of culture on the bottom right the name of the city in French and the representation of St Gilles Castle (dating from the Crusades and a major landmark of the city). The blue bend represents the sea and the three mermaids the cities that form Tripoli and are the origin of its name (Tri-polis, three cities).
