TROMS PROVINCE

Arms of Troms

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 15, 1960.

The arms show a golden griffin. The arms are derived from the arms of the nobleman Bjarne Erlingsson of Bjarkøy (died 1313) , see also the coat of arms of Bjarkøy). In the 13th and 14th century the Bjarkøy family was one of the most important families in the present troms region.
