Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1925.
Tukums was initially a castle and land of Livonian people. "Tukuma" means "the last land" in Livonian, because it was on the Kurši frontier.
In 1253 Germans conquered Tukums. Around 1300 Germans built the castle Tuckum here. The town is first time mentioned in 1445.
In 1776 Tukums became a district center and got city rights. The arms were granted in 1846: a hill with three pine-trees. It is possible that the hill refers to the Milzukalns ("Giants' Hill"), an ancient castle mound.
