Origin/meaning

The oldest use of the arms dates from 1830. At the time the arms were described as historical, but no older seals or images exist. The arms show a donkey, which most likely is derived from the crest of the Lords of Riedheim, who ruled the town from the 15th until the 17^th century. The base is canting for the old name of the town, Angelberg, as it shows a wolf's iron (Wolfsangel) on a mountain (Berg).
