TWEED SHIRE
State : New South Wales
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The shield depicts Capt. James Cook's ship "Endeavour" sailing in front of a landscape with Mt Warning in the background. It is claimed that Mt Warning is the earliest place on the Australian mainland to see the sun rise (but that would be out to sea - not behind the mountain as in the arms!)
The crest depicts the small-leafed tamarind fruit in front of a Blue Knob Orchid.
The area around Tweed is the only habitat of the Albert Lyre-bird, hence the supporters.
