Origin/meaning

SHIELD: Red, white and blue our national colors, are also the traditional Coast Guard colors. The two red stripes honor the cutter’s Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendations, while the white stripes are for the three Coast Guard Unit Commendations. The gold laurel is emblematic of excellence and high achievement and commemorates the multiple awards the DECISIVE has earned. The heraldic naval crown was traditionally granted to eminent sailors for outstanding service and reflects the cutter’s motto.

CREST: The life ring represents the cutter’s humanitarian service as well as its search and rescue mission; its red detail stands for valor and sacrifice. The anchor chain symbolizes teamwork and strength and alludes to restraint, underscoring the interdiction and maritime law enforcement mission of the DECISIVE. The anchor symbolizes naval authority and responsibility.

MOTTO: USCGC DECISIVE proudly serves as “Queen of the Fleet” after 25 years of dedicated service. She is the last of her class.

Approved by Commander, US Coast Guard Atlantic Area, September 1995. The Institute of Heraldry, April 1998.
