Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on February 5, 1965.
The district was historically for the largest part ruled by the Counts of Katzenelnbogen and Nassau. The red lion is the lion of Katzenelnbogen, the golden lion the arms of Nassau. The lower part shows a fountain as a symbol for the many spas and resorts in the area, including the capital city Bad Schwalbach.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
