Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on January 1, 1968.

The leopard is taken from the arms of the County Sayn, to which most of the area historically belonged. The wavy bend refers to the Sieg river.

The wheel refers to trade an industry, the tools in base to mining. The wheel is held by the leopard as that is currently the main source of activity, whereas mining is declining.

The borudrure is typical for a Verbandsgemeinde. The balls refer to the individual municipalities.
