Portuguese Escudo de verde, com um barco de vermelho, com vela de prata, sobre um mar ondado de prata e verde, semeado de peixes negros e coberto por uma rede de ouro saindo do barco. Em chefe duas cabeças, uma de carnação branca coroada de ouro e outra de carnação negra com turbante de prata. Coroa mural de cinco torres de prata. Listel branco com a legenda de negro : " VILA REAL DE SANTO ANTÓNIO ".

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 2, 1932 (below) and with a new crown (above) after 1988.

The arms show a fishing boat with net and four fish, all symbolic for the importance of fishing for the town and region. The two heads in the chief are those of Afonso III, King of Portugal (who conquered the Algarve from Arabs) and an Arab Sheik (the previous rulers of the Algarve)
