WALDKIRCHEN AM WESEN

State : Oberösterreich
District : Schärding

Coat of arms (crest) of Waldkirchen am Wesen
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 25, 1988.

The checquered bend is taken from the medieval Von Wesen family, who owned the local castle in the 12th century. The oak leaf is taken from the medieval Aichberg family, who had their estate in the area in the 12th and 13th century as vassals of the Lords Von Wesen.

The anchor refers to the local harbour in the Donau river.

Literature : Baumert, H.E. : Oberösterreichische Gemeindewappen, Linz, 1996.
