Coat of arms (crest) of Western Australia

Official blazon

Arms : Argent, on a Base wavy Azure charged with a Barrulet wavy Argent a Black Swan naiant proper.
Crest : On a Wreath Or and Sable, The Royal Crown between two Kangaroo Paw (Anigosan­thos manglesii) flowers slipped proper.
Supporters : On either side a Kangaroo holding in the exterior fore-paw a Boomerang proper.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1969.

The arms show the State's bird, the black swan. The kangaroos each hold a boomerang as the symbol of the Aboriginal people. The royal crown is placed between the State's flower, the Mangle's kangaroo paw.

The swan had been used as the symbol of the colony already for many decades boefre the grant of 1969.
