The shield division is based on the arms of the State of Rheinland-Pfalz. The red cross is the arms of the State of Trier and symbolises that the area belonged to Trier for many centuries. The miner's lamp symbolises the importance or iron mining in the area until 1965, which was one of the largest in the area.

The silver rose is the symbol of St. Theresia of Lisieux, the local patron saint. Literature:
