Origin/meaning

The village Willstätt came into possession of the Counts of (Hanau-)Lichtenberg in 1288. They built a castle in the village. The village had a (lower) court from these times on until the 18th century, when it was moved to korkKork. The oldest known seal of the village dates from 1444, but it is probably made at the end of the 14th century. It shows arms with a cross and a swan's neck. The swan is derived from the arms of the Counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg. The present arms, which were granted in 1901 were derived from the oldest seal. In some later seals a wolfs-hook was added to the arms, the hook probably being a village-mark (used to mark village boundaries).
