Official blazon

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: A yellow disc edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border, the overall diameter 3 inches (7.62 cm), on which is a blue bucking mule, with yellow saddle, on which is a monogrammed “WW.” Around the disc originating in base to the viewer’s left an arced inscription “WOODROW WILSON” in blue letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.

Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally into two equal halves blue over gold, the lower half bearing a gold demi-sun in splendor surmounted by a gold bear on a green mound. Attached below the shield an arced blue scroll inscribed “LOS ANGELES USD” in gold letters.

Origin/meaning

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved 11 March 1975. The Shoulder Loop Insignia was originally approved 20 November 1931. It was amended on 10 May 1976 to add a Motto Scroll.
