Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 6, 1819 and again in 1839.

The arms are based on the old seal of the village and show the local patron saint, St. Nicholas.
The colours are the Dutch national colours, as the local council did not indicate the colours of the arms in the early 19th century. The Dutch Hoge Raad van Adel thus granted the arms in blue and gold. After the Belgian independance the arms were confirmed, but the colours remained unchanged.
