Official blazon

(1953) Van azuur met een zon van goud bezet in het middelpunt met de letters BK gesteld in een rechthoek, het geheel van azuur.
(1988) In keel een zon met 28 stralen van goud; hartschild: in sabel de hoofdletters BK van goud; het hartschild getopt rechts met een mijter en links met de krul van een kromstaf, beide van zilver.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 30, 1953 and again on October 5, 1988.

The sun in the arms is a canting element (zon=sun). The arms are based on the arms of the former Zonnebeke Abbey, that showed a sun rising from a green stream (beek=stream) and the letters BK in red. The letters BK form the latter part of the name : Zon and BK. The abbey owned and ruled the village from 1112-1799. The arms are known from the local seals from the late 18th century.
