Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 6, 1956 and again on October 13, 1993.

Zutendaal never had its own council, but was governed by the city of Genk. The city, however, used a special seal for Zutendaal in the 18th century, showing Saint Mary with child, the patron saint of Zutendaal. Previously the city used seals with the arms of the medieval County Loon and Saint Martin of Tours, the patron saint of the city.

These two designs were combined in the arms of Zutendaal, the arms of Loon (as the village historically also was part of Loon) and the local patron saint. The colours of the latter were arbitrarily chosen.
