ŠMARTNO OB PAKI

Arms of Šmartno ob Paki

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on October 28, 1996.

The arms are divided to symbolise the local patron saint, St. Martin of Tours, who cut his cloak to give to a beggar. The goose is a less common symbol for St. Martin and refers to the legend that he was hiding in a goose pen after being elected Bishop of Tours. Martin did not want to become a bishop, so he kept hiding. Eventually he was found and made bishop. The blue colour refers to the Paka river.
