Per fess Purpure and gyronny of eight Argent and Gules, a fess chequy Or and Vert, in chief a squirrel sejant erect Proper. Above the Shield is placed a Coronet appropriate to a statutory District, videlicet:- a circlet richly chased from which are issuant eight thistle-heads (three and two halves visible) Or.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on February 3, 1980.
The arms show in the chief a aquirrel, taken from the arms of Kilmarnock Burgh. The checquered fess is also taken from the burgh arms. The base represents Loudoun, showing the arms of the Campbell family, Earls of Loudoun.
