===Origin/meaning===Takapuna adopted these unofficial arms in 1954.

As the town is virtually surrounded by the sea it was decided that the whole of the device would refer to its maritime situation. The shield shows a lymphad, derived from the arms of New Zealand on waves of the sea. The supporters are dolphins and tridents.
