Origin/meaning

The arms are of the House of Leliwa (azure a crescent or surmounted by a six-pointed star of the second). Tarnów was in the possession of the Tarnowski family of the House of Leliwa from the 14^th century. Tarnowski took the name from Tarnów, and gave the town its coat of arms.

The arms are identical to those of Tarnobrzeg.
